From Blame and Shame - To Personal Responsibility

personal growth quotation marks

Kim.E discusses the tendency to blame others for our emotions and how it leads to personal stagnation and procrastination. She emphasises that although others can trigger emotions in us, it is ultimately our responsibility to choose how we feel and respond. By blaming others, we avoid facing our unmet expectations, fears, and emotional voids, which hampers emotional growth and keeps us stuck in life.

"We are all masters of the Blame Shame Game, which promotes personal stagnation and procrastination, maintains inactivity, and keeps us pointing fingers elsewhere."

Breaking Free from the Blame and Shame Game

We can only master what we continue to experience. Blaming others for the way we feel is common practice, so is the general tendency to apologise for hurting or annoying people, or for making them feel a certain way. We can´t make people feel something, but we can trigger an emotion in them.

We can only master what we continue to experience. Blaming others for the way we feel is common practice, so is the general tendency to apologise for hurting or annoying people, or for making them feel a certain way. We can't make people feel something, but we can trigger an emotion in them.

We each choose how we feel at any given time with the thoughts we think and the emotional meaning we attach to those thoughts and our past experiences. How can I blame another person for MY feelings? The person upsetting me serves as a trigger that reveals my unmet expectations, hopes and wishes. Should I choose to go even deeper, the fears and emotional voids my expectations conceal will also be revealed to me. By blaming and shaming someone or something else, I hand the responsibility of my feelings to the other person or thing, and fail to learn the invaluable lesson hidden in my emotions that were triggered. Blamers and Shamers seldom evolve emotionally, and often remain stuck in life.
