Herd Mentality - Comfortable State of Mind
Kim.E explores the concept of herd mentality and the courage required to overcome it. She discusses the emotional resilience needed to leave the perceived safety of community conformity and highlights the harsh reactions individuals may face from their own communities when striving for individualism. Kim.E emphasises that true personal growth and the ability to handle adversity comes from breaking away from the predictable life of the herd and embracing the challenges of change.
“For centuries, we have been herded mentally and emotionally to become the domestic flock that follows the local shepherds with unquestionable trust and subservience.”

The Courage to Break Free from the Herd Mentality
To leave the herd mindset behind so that we can become free-thinking individuals requires a helluva lot of courage. To abandon the false sense of safety the herd community provides us with will leave us feeling out in the cold and all alone, which is shit scary and requires an emotional resilience that is only made possible with a strong connection to our emotional self.
Fascinating, isn´t it, that in the blink of an eye, the same herd community would turn against its own kind should they wish to step out of line to strive for individualism. Such an individual will be fed to the wolves by the very community they were so loyal to, with a “Serves you bloody right!” on their lips, or the silent prayer for their demise.
When we finally leave the comfort of our false communities, we finally grow up to be(come) the unique individual we are, and not the one who fits into the herd mentality and obediently follows societal norms. Adversity, which means calamity, misfortune, hostility, wickedness, or malice, is what we are surrounded by within and without our safe communities, except that the herd community doesn’t do very well at dealing with adversity, and instead judges, criticises, blames, and prefers to avoid or ignore all the worldly challenges to continue with their predictable, unfulfilled lifestyles.
Just through the act of leaving the herd mentality, we are better equipped to deal with adversity, which is the perfect opportunity for personal growth. Without such challenging times, change wouldn´t be possible. There is nothing safe about change, and change does not happen within the herd.
